Port of Woodland posts 2012 Preliminary Budget

News,Notices,Press Releases Comments Off

WOODLAND, Wash. – The Port of Woodland Board of Commissioners has adopted the port’s 2012 preliminary budget and has posted it for public review.

The 2012 budget totals $1,066,647.77, including a reduction of the port’s property tax request from 2011’s $216,000 to $200,000 in 2012. Commissioners will hold a public hearing on the budget, and consider adoption of the final budget at its December 15 meeting.

“It is one of the port commission’s stated goals to reduce the port’s property tax each year, if possible,” Executive Director Nelson Holmberg said. “And the commission has set a policy that we only use these taxes to pay for capital development, repayment of debt or environmental remediation.”

Revenue growth is shown in the 2012 preliminary budget is due to the port’s ability to attract new tenants in 2011. In August, Noahs Ark Charters moved into the port’s 17,700 square foot building on Schurman Way, and the port recently reached agreement on a lease to fill the only remaining square footage of space on port property.

“As it stands right now, we’ll enter 2012 with 100 percent occupancy in our industrial parks,” Holmberg said.

The port budget also includes expenses planned for a comprehensive maintenance review and repairs (as needed) at the Down River Drive Industrial Park. The port also expects to use outside services for a 2012 feasibility study for construction of a boat launch.

The budget can be reviewed by clicking here, or by visiting the port office at 115 Davidson in downtown Woodland.

Proposed Strategic Plan Posted for Public Review

Notices Comments Off

WOODLAND, Wash. – The Port of Woodland Board of Commissioners has completed its proposed 10-year Strategic Plan, and will conduct a public hearing and vote to adopt that plan at its regularly-scheduled April 21, 2011 Board of Commissioners meeting.

To see the plan, click here.

This proposed Strategic Plan has been worked out over a nine-month process of design and public review of the plan during regular commission meetings. The process began during a one-day planning workshop in July 2010. Commissioners Paul Cline, Jerry Peterson and Dale Boon led the planning process, assisted by Executive Director Nelson Holmberg and Port Auditor Carol Moore.

The plan clarifies the port’s mission statement, and introduces a vision statement as well as spelling out specific organizational and operational values that help create a set of criteria for staff and commissioners to follow as stewards of the port’s publicly-owned properties and facilities going forward. Short- and long-term key initiatives in the plan also lay out broad identification for what major priorities the port will be involved in during the 10-year span of the plan.

The public is invited to review the plan online, or obtain a hard copy from the port office, and share comments or thoughts during the public hearing at the commission’s regularly-scheduled public meeting on Thursday, April 21, 2011, beginning at 5:30 p.m., before the commission votes on whether to adopt the plan.
